The hatching of Brood

The hatching of Brood

Back in August 2021 we started out in a shed on a farm in the Yarra Valley, Australia.

We were all long-term textile and fashion industry folk who had become frustrated by the glacial pace of change towards sustainability. We felt there was a lot of talk and not enough action.

Our solution was to band together to do something different. We started a design studio and workroom with a focus on creating knitwear from naturally grown fibres like wool and cotton. The big difference was that we would be totally focused on doing this within a circular economy model.

And so our studio Hatch and Make was born. Over the next few years we would work with over 30 fashion brands, helping them develop and make knitwear collections, all within circular economy principles. And we would all learn together and create garments, homewares and accessories in this new way.

Roll on to 2024. We had outgrown our farm shed and and needed more space and additional manufacturing equipment to keep up with demand. We found our amazing new home in Lilydale and with that we took the leap into this new stage.

Alongside this expansion, we decided it was time to launch our own knitwear collection, and so Brood was born. We’re excited to share it with you, and we hope you love it as much as we do.
